By his grace the Duke of Beaufort

In 1981 Michael Pinker founded Lady’s Wood Shooting School with just one small manually operated trap on the back lawn. From little acorns great oaks grow, and Lady’s Wood has long been recognised as one of the finest Shooting Schools in the country. The company’s success is due to Michael and his wife Karen who between them had a gift for getting things right.

Michael took an active role at the Shooting School and there is great evidence of his involvement. He was only too pleased to be able to pass on his vast experience and knowledge of shooting to both the young entry and more mature shot. In this modern world his old-fashioned values, patience and courtesy were all part of the natural teaching process. His own experience came from an introduction to shooting at an early age and he represented both England and Great Britain on many occasions. Michael had a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the countryside, as a keen naturalist, conservationist and excellent game shot.

Sadly Michael passed away in 2010 and his contribution to Lady’s Wood Shooting School will always be remembered. Michael and Karen set the highest standards for Lady’s Wood, which is now directed by Ernie Hemmings, and his team who strive to maintain its reputation as one of the countries premiere shooting grounds.

Lady’s Wood offers a unique experience for shooters of all standards, providing magnificent shooting in idyllic woodland surroundings. We have a selection of layouts to suit all levels of ability, which include two towers at 120ft and 60ft and three elevated traps.

Amongst the immaculately well-kept grounds you will discover a large variety of sporting traps that can simulate anything from a bolting rabbit to a long distance pheasant thrown from the High Tower.

On the short walk with your instructor from one stand to another, you are quite likely to see one of our resident peacocks roaming contentedly along the gravel path with you!

Lady’s Wood boasts one of the highest towers in the country and at 120 ft a novice shot may well find it daunting – but it’s not for climbing! With automatic clay pigeon traps dotted around it, the clays can be released from as little as 40 ft and the Lady’s Wood’s team of professional instructors, will soon have you hitting those clays.
